The Ireland eGovernment Awards in association with eir Business and Cisco honour the pioneering work of public sector teams and individuals who are delivering online services on the island of Ireland today. They are the only awards of their kind in Ireland that reward leadership and innovation in eGovernment. The awards are open to public sector departments, local authorities and state agencies as well as private sector companies who partner with the public sector on eGovernment projects. Entries are now open.

Projects can be entered for a variety of categories (see below).

Entry is free of charge and you may enter as many categories as you feel are appropriate for your digital service, project or initiative.


Categories 2019:


Ireland eGovernment Agri and Food Award

This category recognises the use of digital technology and the internet to enhance or promote the Agricultural and Food Science sectors in Ireland or overseas. The judges are looking for applications that demonstrable an innovative approach and/or deliver efficiencies within this very wide category, across the island of Ireland.

Ireland eGovernment API and Open Source Data

The API and Open Source category recognises projects using public API’s and Open Source to deliver digital services and efficiencies. Project entries may be utilising API’s to integrate and optimize dispersed data sets or services. They may also be adopting Open Source and contributing to the documentation of the Open Source project or providing support services.  This award goes beyond the simple use of API’s and Open Source packages and recognises real, practical participation in an open integrated project or community.

Ireland eGovernment Environment and Social Impact

The judges are looking for projects or services that, through the use of digital technology and the internet, contribute to improvements of all aspects of the environment on the island of Ireland and/or projects that have a direct and positive impact on society in the broadest sense on the island of Ireland.

Ireland eGovernment General Award

This general category is open to any government-funded service across the island of Ireland that, through the use of the web, improves the efficiency, customer service, reputation, experience or overall standing of Ireland either at home or internationally. The judges for this award are looking for evidence of clever use of technology and creativity.

Overall Winner Ireland eGovernment Award

The Ireland eGovernment Awards Overall Winner is selected from all shortlisted entries. The winner will be the project with the greatest overall impact in terms of the numbers of citizens or public services it positively impacts across the island of Ireland. Alternatively it may be a project that contributes to the island of Ireland’s participation across the world.


Ireland eGovernment Health and Medical Award

This category recognises the use of online to enhance the health and/or medical services provided by state agencies to citizens across the island of Ireland. The judges want to see evidence of the application of digital to improve the overall efficiency, research and administration of the health and medical services across the island of Ireland.

Ireland eGovernment Innovation Award

The Innovation category will be awarded for digital or online operational, service or product innovation that has been implemented for the first time between 2017-2019. The innovation must be focused on providing improved services, operational efficiencies and/or faster process in delivering eGovernment on the island of Ireland.

The judges of this category are looking for evidence of the service impact of the innovation on users – internal or external of the public service provider

Ireland eGovernment Irish Language Award

This award will be made to those online services that provide the best Irish language experience for citizens, who wish to access services through Irish, across the island of Ireland. The judges will look for evidence of the highest quality of online content in the Irish language and that the use of Irish extends right through to the navigation and usability of the site or service.

This category recognises the use of digital technology by a local authority or agency to enhance the services, administration, economy, environment, well-being, and community it serves, across the island of Ireland.

Ireland eGovernment Marketing & Social Media Award

This category is open to State-funded organisations across the island of Ireland that demonstrate excellence in the marketing and/or in the use of social media. The judges are looking for integrated marketing or social media campaigns and services, particularly where projects show evidence of innovative techniques or execution. Judging will be made on tactics, service, promotion and positioning strategies and how effectively marketing or communication objectives were met.

This category recognises innovative mobile sites or apps that fit in with, or enhance, the overall strategy of an organisation. The judges will be looking at the mobile site or app design, how it met its target audience’s needs and evidence of the project success.

Ireland eGovernment Promoting Ireland Overseas Award – Sponsored by Dept Agency

This category recognises the key role played by international inward investment and exports across the island of Ireland. It rewards the use of online to support the promotion of island overseas.

This category is open to those organisations whose use of the web promotes the island of Ireland to encourage investment, trade, tourism, international relations, education, peace and cross-border cooperation.

Ireland eGovernment Universal Design Award- Sponsored by NDA 

This award is for  “Design so thoughtful it works for everyone”. Recognising the universal importance of usability and good user experience. This important award is, supported by the Centre for Excellence in Universal Design and the NDA. The award will be judged from ALL entries who complete the design questions on their entry form.

The eGovernment Visionary Award recognises the contribution of an individual who has had a major impact on digital services and operational efficiencies in eGovernment on the Ireland of Ireland. That person will have shown unwavering commitment to innovation through the use of digital technology and the internet that has accelerated services that contribute to social and economic success on the island of Ireland.
